Information systems (i.e., networks, network devices, dial-in systems,
personal computers, workstations, mainframes, minicomputers, computer accounts,
word processing equipment, peripherals, and software) are provided for the use
of students, faculty and staff in the College of Engineering in support of the
programs of the University. The use of these resources is primarily for purposes
related to the mission of education, research and public service. All students,
faculty and staff are responsible for seeing that these information systems are
used in an effective, efficient, ethical and lawful manner. Because these
technologies give individuals the ability to access and copy information from
remote sources, users must be mindful of the rights of others to their privacy,
intellectual property and other rights. The use of information systems is a
privilege, not a right, which may be revoked at any time for misuse.
The policies outlined in the links below should be adhered to by all
departments, groups and individuals who operate or use “information
systems”, as defined above, within the College. The policy refers to
College information systems whether individually controlled or shared,
stand-alone or networked. It applies to all systems owned, leased,
operated or contracted by the College. These policies apply for any use
of the College’s information systems whether for administration,
research, teaching or other purposes.
These policies are supplemental to any Wichita State University
acceptable use
policy for campus network access, and do not replace existing laws,
regulations, etc. Individual departments and groups within the College
may define additional conditions of use for computational and networking
resources under their control. These conditions must be consistent with
this overall policy, but may provide additional detail, guidelines and
restrictions.
