1) The Department
of Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University is seeking
candidates for an opening in a tenure-eligible position at the assistant
or associate professor level. Applications are sought in the area of
Mechanical Design. Preference is
given to candidates that have expertise in
one or more of the following areas: machine design, mechanical systems,
finite element analysis, biomechanics, micro-mechanical systems, design
theory and methodology, or reliability and failure prevention. The
position requires: a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering; good
written and oral communication skills; and successful experience with
diverse populations. The successful candidate must be eligible to work
in the US; applicants must indicate visa/residency status. Duties will
include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing
externally funded research programs, supervising graduate student
research, and traditional university service. The successful candidate
will have the opportunity to interact with the local industries and
utilize the National Institute for Aviation Research facilities.
Wichita is known as the
"Air Capital of the World" and there is a long history of collaboration
between the University and major aircraft manufactures located in

Faculty Positions In Solid Mechanics & Structures
Tenure eligible positions with specialization in solid mechanics and structures are available in
the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Wichita State University. The open positions are at
the assistant or associate professor rank with responsibilities that include both teaching and
research. Applicants must have a doctorate in aerospace engineering, engineering mechanics or a
related engineering discipline, a record of publication, appropriate communication skills, and a
demonstrated commitment to diversity. Applicants must also have at least one of their three
degrees in aerospace engineering or have experience in the aerospace industry or aerospace
related research. Applicants are preferred to be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status,
have an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering and have teaching experience.
Applicants must clearly state their status: US citizen, permanent resident, or qualified foreign
national including current visa status. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
The campus is a beautifully landscaped architectural showplace with approximately 15,000
students. Outstanding facilities in the department and the university's National Institute for
Aviation Research include a first rate composite laboratory, an extensive structural testing
laboratory, a crash dynamics laboratory, a computational mechanics laboratory, and six wind
tunnels and a water tunnel. Wichita, a community of approximately 400,000 people, has many
companies that are leaders in the aerospace industry including Raytheon Aircraft, Cessna
Aircraft, Bombardier Learjet, Boeing, and Airbus Engineering.

Assistant Professor level, expected to be available in Fall
2003. The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduate and graduate (including PhD level)
students, secure and conduct funded
research, publish scholarly works, and develop industry-based
research and outreach
educational opportunities for local industries. Candidates
must have a PhD (by Fall 2003) in industrial engineering or other allied
field; potential to publish in scholarly journals; academic
